OK, this is has to be the most elitist thing I've read, since, well, iZac's suggestion they should use private thugs security services to quell critics of the adminstration. My irony detector is going off, (it doesn't help that it's on a Harvard server) but its entirely possible he's playing devil's advocate.
I can't call this one. I don't sense irony in it but, as you know, I'm notriously poor at detecting it.

Greenspun's modest proposal reminds me of an old friend who grew up Jewish in South Africa and subject to the regimne's requirement that he get a good Christian education. He said he thought compulsory religious education was an excellent practice, because it turned kids into atheists.

What I said was that if private business wished to avoid constitutional issues, they should hire private security firms to deal with protestors who are bent on destroying private property. The protestors are still free to file civil suits for assault, battery, etc.
