For the first time in my life, I'm afraid to eat something I've cooked. I picked up a Thai cookbook, and tonight I decided to try my hand at making red curry paste. My forehead, eyelids, and nostrils are currently ablaze with a chemical burn caused by a blender mishap. Considering what only a minute quantity of said paste has done to my skin, I fear the consequences of a cup or so waiting in my fridge. Philly food suddenly sounds good: like a provolone-iceberg-mayo hoagie on white would hit the spot right now....
Heh. Weapons of Mass Destruction in the kitchen!
Yum.
Reminds me of a time I was at a Pho joint and I squeezed a huge amount of the red chili paste into my soup. As I was greedily slurping down the noodles, a bit of the red chemicals splashed into my eyes.
My brother had to drive the car home because I was tearing and screaming in pain. When I got home, I knew for sure I was going to go blind from this.
I filled up the bathtub with water and dunked my head in with open eyelids and shook back and forth...
While that intensified the pain for a few seconds, I think it eventually washed it all out... This much I DO know: My eye was bloodshot and swollen for a few days and for a while after that was particularly sensitive to light.
