is it dissolving?

Last night, I was starting some loads in the complex laundry room, when I notice a bar of Zote sitting on a washer. I was a little bewildered by the pink bar, wondering if it was for washing clothes. My cute neighbor walked in a few moments later, and I asked, "Is that laundry soap?"
"Yeah, it was really cheap, but I didn't know it was packaged like this," she said, as she struggled to cut a chunk off with a butter knife.
"It looks really interesting."
"It didn't come with directions, and I'm not sure how to use it."
"Maybe its for hand-washing?"
She plunked a chunk into the washer and started it.
"You can use some of my liquid detergent if you want." I continued to load clothes into the washer.
A few moments later she asked aloud, "Is it dissolving?" and opened the lid to find a big pink chunk happily floating in the hot laundry water. "Can I use some of yours?"
I chuckled and said, "Hey, I wouldn't have offered if you weren't welcome."
But I'm still curious about Zote, but it appears I'm on the wrong side of the digital divide; I imagine most Zote users pass the instructions on orally and probably don't get online much. My powers of online research are not yielding any directions for using the big pink bar. Any ideas on how to use Zote?

About the Zote Bar Soap: (is it disolvng?) Posted On Janury 13, 2003.

Zote Soap is used in México as a pre-wash treatment, people rub hard staind first with zote, and then put hte clothes in the Washing machine. If you want you can Melt it and use it as a Liquid detergent. Works Great!!

What method would you use to melt it? Right now, I have shaved the entire bar into water and will heat it and see what happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I grate it and heat on the stove, then mix in some borax and washing soda. When all dissolved, I add to make 2 gallons. I use this mixutre 1/2 cup for one load of laundry,

I also heard that Zote soap was good for acne if you use it to wash your face. Only used once a day, it can help clear up skin.

I love this ZOTE. I've been using it for handwash laundry and if its as good in a machine as it is with washing by hand, I think I'll try the above recipe for machine-wash.

I grate the entire bar on a cheese grater put it in a ziplock bag and put about 1/2 cup in my wash for each load. If you have babies it get's all the spit up right out of those burp cloths. Wonderful for sheets and towels.

I PICKED UP A BAR SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS AND BASICALLY FORGOT I HAD IT UNTIL I STARTED CLEANING OUT KITCHEN CABINETS.
I WAS WASHING MY KITCHEN WALLS (LOT OF GREASE)AND DECIDED TO TRY THE ZOTE ON THEM. I WAS AMAZED BY THE RESULTS. I HOPE I DON'T RUN OUT OF ZOTE BEFORE I FINISH WASHING THE REST OF THE WALLS IN MY HOME.

Zote soap is seriously the best!
I use it in the shower, not in the laundry...
I like the soapy smell, not scented like other soaps... and it contains at least 66% fatty acid which is what pure soap is made from... I can't stop using it! If I had $1000 dollars to blow id buy all the zote I could find...

Is there different ways to use zote soap? Can I cut little peices off of it and put it into the washer

I discovered Zote when we were in Mexico and needed to handwash some things - it was cheap and I could take the rest home unlike a liquid. I now swear by it - it is great for treating stains before a macine wash, and I rub a wet rag with it to remove pet stains from carpets - it is the only thing I've found that takes out vomit! It works well on blood too - a bar will last forever. You can grate or chunk it into the washing machine, but you need to let it sit to disolve.

hi !!
is zote just for laundry or is it safe to use on the body ---for the bath/shower?????

Posted by: ei at March 28, 2005 06:17 PM

Can zote soap be used to hand wash dishes? (Dish soap) If so, how would you use it? Thanks!

Ok! I just experienced the pink chunkies. I am going to try and disolved this pink chunky in a plastic bottle and keep it as a consitrate. If it works, my god 0.66 in this day of overpriced everything it will be a wonderful money saver!
Wish me luck. Any Mexicans out there that know the secret?

I make another laundry soap with /Zote and lye: 1 grated bar of Zote, 1gallon cold water, 1/4 cup Red Devil lye ( please be careful not to splash in your eye or on skin) stir, add 4 more gallons of water, stir some more, add .5 oz of an essential oil for scent (rosemary, lavender) you may want to add tea tree oil. This is my best recipe.

I would like to know how to use it on my dog and also how you would use it as an insect repellent.

Posted by: Laurie at July 4, 2005 01:27 PM

Washing the Dog with Zote;
I just wet the dog with warm water, rub the bar on her fur, rub her fur to lather it up and work it down to her skin, then rinse her off in warm water. It rinses out easily and leaves her squeaky clean. Needs only two 5 gal. buckets of the warm water, and I have a 55 lb. dog!

Where in PA can I buy Zote? I don't buy on the computer or by mail. Please reply to my email address. Thanks.

I found Zote in Walmart.
I had no idea what it was for, never had seen it before and bought it just out of curiosity. I use it in the shower and bath.

It has a refreshing fragrence, and cleans me squeaky clean.

I'm a mechanic by trade, and it gets my stained hands and arm's as clean as a whistle, and leaves my skin real soft.

Now Walmart discontinued selling it so I'll have to do some searching locally in a few Mexican food store's.

I'll have to try it in my work clothes laundry and see what happens.
Glad I found this web page--- ~:)
