I'm back in Austin after driving down yesterday. Compared to my icy sojourn on the way home, there was nothing but sunshine down I-35 yesterday. The weather in Austin is beautiful today. Shorts in January! Its good to be back in the ATX.
I watched most of the Fiesta Bowl last night, and I was delighted to watch Miami lose. It seems ridiculous that they can be ranked #1 so much when they play in the Big East. Although Syracuse and WVU have strong football traditions, none of the other teams in that conference seem to play at the level of Big XII or Pac-10 teams. I wonder if they would have such an inflated win-loss record if they played in a bona-fide power conference.
oh yeah, and the OU-Michigan State game is on ESPN tonight, so I'm excited to see the Sooners play another game.
As a WVU alum, I can tell you that Virginia Tech is also a Big East powerhouse -- making the conference less of a cakewalk. Pitt also has a huge football tradition, although they've been patchy in recent years. Having watched Miami for more than a decade, I'm sorry to say that they usually deserve to be ranked near the top nationally. Much as I'd like to deflate those arrogant showboats, they can almost always back up their high ranking. I also spent some time living among the Big 12, and there were dregs in that conference, too.
